A bike shop fitted into eighty square metres by building upwards — a timber mezzanine that doubles the display area.
The project
Eighty square metres of floor is not much for a shop that has to display bicycles, so the fit-out goes vertical. A heavy timber frame carries a mezzanine over the back half, and the stair is pushed to the shopfront and lit from within so it reads as part of the display rather than as circulation.
Whitewashed brick and exposed timber keep the shell light behind the stock, and the full-height glazed frontage lets the bikes themselves do the signage from the walkway.
